December Newsletter
Happy December Softball Families,
The Christmas season brings its own kind of hustle for busy softball families, where holiday cheer mixes with practice schedules, team events, and the constant shuffle of gear bags and gift bags. Between decorating the tree, braving the crowds for last-minute shopping, and squeezing in winter training sessions, families learn to balance the magic of the season with the rhythm of the diamond. It’s a whirlwind of togetherness, teamwork, and tradition—filled with early mornings, late nights, and hearts that stay full even when the calendar is packed. In the end, the hustle becomes part of the holiday spirit, reminding softball families how strong, dedicated, and connected they truly are.
We are very excited about the next steps to creating our jersey for our inaugural 2026
Silent auction donations play a vital role in supporting our youth softball helping programs provide equipment, safe facilities and meaningful opportunities for our young ladies. Each donation item big or small creates excitement, draws community involvement and directly contributes to young programs.
SASL is also currently seeking sponsorship for many different things. Please reach out if you or someone you know who would be interested in becoming a sponsor. You can find the current sponsor outline on the website as there are many different types of commitment levels.

Happy New Year Softball Families,

Happy February Softball Families,

To ensure a fair, transparent, and positive experience, all evaluations will be conducted by outside, unbiased evaluators.
This means:
Objective assessments
Equal opportunity for every athlete
No pre-selection or favoritism
Placement based on skill, effort, and potential
SASL evaluations are a required part of team placement for U13, U15, and U17 and help ensure a fair and balanced experience for all players. To be considered for team selections, athletes must attend at least 2 of the 3 evaluation dates. Attendance is mandatory and ONLY special exceptions will be made as evaluators are only available these dates to properly assess skills, efforts and development. Thank you for understanding the importance of this process and for your commitment to a successful SASL season.
Player Transfers – Important Notice
To ensure fairness, transparency, and appropriate team formation, the Softball Association of Sylvan Lake (SASL) has established the following transfer policy for the upcoming season:
SASL will not sign player transfer requests to another association after SASL tryouts have concluded, except in the following circumstance:
An athlete must participate in SASL tryouts and not be selected to a SASL team in order to be eligible for a signed transfer to another association offering a higher level of competition, where the athlete has been selected to a team.
Tryouts are a critical part of roster planning, coach selection, and league alignment. This policy helps protect team balance while ensuring athletes still have an opportunity to compete at an appropriate level.
We appreciate the cooperation of our families as we work to provide a fair, consistent, and athlete-focused experience for all participants.
Softball evaluations are about more than just assessing skill level—they represent a commitment to the team and the possibility of competing at the provincial level. By attending evaluations, athletes are showing their dedication, work ethic, and willingness to put in the time required for a higher level of play. This process helps ensure that teams are formed with players who are ready to train hard, support their teammates, and embrace the responsibilities that come with potentially advancing to provincials.
Bring your glove, your effort, and a great attitude
Come be part of a supportive softball community
We can’t wait to see our athletes on the field!
We want to encourage ALL potential coaches to come and silently observe our players as they work hard to earn their spot.
Surge Evaluations for U13,U15 and U17 will be held in the Dome.

Seeking Host Families in Sylvan Lake!
Each summer, the Gulls welcome players from numerous countries, and behind every great season is an incredible group of billet families who make it all possible!
Opening your home to a Gulls player means providing a safe, welcoming place for them to live while they chase their baseball dreams. Host families play an invaluable role in our program, offering support, stability, and a sense of home away from home. The relationships formed often last well beyond the season and become one of the most meaningful parts of the Gulls experience- for players and families alike.

Provincial play includes multiple age divisions (U11 through U19 and beyond), with teams typically qualifying through league play or tiering weekends held earlier in the season.
Important deadlines, such as roster submissions and registration requirements, are set leading into the summer, with many provincials taking place in July across Alberta. Teams are encouraged to ensure all registrations and paperwork are completed on time so athletes can fully participate in this exciting championship opportunity.

Lake Life Summer Classic
The Life Life Summer Classic is more than just a tournament—it’s a celebration of our athletes, our community, and the game we love. From field prep to scorekeeping and everything in between, each volunteer role plays a part in making the weekend a success. When our teams step up to give their time, it not only strengthens the tournament, but also builds pride, teamwork, and a true sense of community within our association.
